AI Agents as Business Lead Magnets

A clever way AI turns analysis into sales opportunities

I spend a lot of time thinking about what makes certain AI agents particularly valuable. This week, something caught my attention on agent.ai that I’ve been thinking about a lot — and it's not just about the technology.

It's a website analysis agent built by Erik Hooijer that does something simple but powerful: analyzes websites like a human expert would.

But what really caught my attention was how cleverly it's designed, both from a technical and business perspective.

In a nutshell, it works like this:

  1. You provide your website URL, industry, and email (it needs this context to give meaningful analysis)

  2. The agent performs a comprehensive analysis of your site

  3. You get a detailed report covering everything from design to copywriting to SEO

  4. Here's the clever part: each report seamlessly includes a booking link to connect with Erik for consulting

This might seem straightforward, but it represents something I've been thinking about a lot lately: how AI agents can bridge the gap between automated analysis and human expertise, creating real business opportunities in the process.

In today's newsletter, I'm breaking down my real-world test with the agent, what makes it particularly interesting, and why this matters for the future of AI agents.

First, A Real World Test

I decided to test this agent with a website I know pretty well — HubSpot.com. After all, who better to verify its analysis than someone who's been building the site for years?

Here's what I gave it:

  • Website: hubspot.com

  • Company name: HubSpot

  • Industry: Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

  • Email address (for the free report)

First impression: I was impressed by the depth and specificity of the analysis. It wasn’t just generic advice — it provided detailed, actionable insights.

The agent started with design and conversion analysis, accurately identifying our strengths (clean design, clear value proposition, strong social proof) while suggesting specific improvements.

What caught my attention wasn't just that this feedback was good — it's that they were contextual. The agent understood our industry and suggested improvements that made sense for a CRM company.

The copy enhancements were also great. It recommended creating an interactive ROI calculator, adding more industry-specific use cases, and showing detailed implementation timelines.

Why This Agent is Different

There's something really clever happening here with the analysis — and it's not just about the technology.

At the beginning of each report, Erik includes a booking link for his consulting services. This might seem like a simple addition, but it represents something powerful about how AI agents can create real business opportunities.

Think about it this way:

  • The agent provides genuinely valuable analysis upfront (no paywall, no strings attached)

  • The quality of the analysis establishes credibility and expertise — and gets delivered right to your inbox

  • The booking link creates a natural next step for those who want to dive deeper

  • The AI effectively becomes a lead generation tool for high-value consulting services

This is a brilliant bridge between automated analysis and human expertise. Instead of falling into the common trap of trying to replace consultants (which many AI tools attempt), this agent creates qualified leads for them.

It's not trying to do everything — it's doing just enough to demonstrate value while clearly showing where human expertise can take things further.

Why This Matters Now

One of the most fascinating ideas on my mind lately is this bridge between humans and AI agents. I don't know if this is exactly how it'll look in the future, but right now, it's a brilliant way to leverage the current state of AI agent tech.

Think about where we are with AI agents:

  • They're incredibly good at analysis and pattern recognition

  • They can process vast amounts of information quickly

  • But they still can't fully replace human judgment and expertise

Erik found the sweet spot. Instead of trying to make the agent do everything (which often leads to mediocre results), he's letting it do what it does best—provide thorough, valuable analysis—while creating a natural path to human expertise for implementation.

This opens up some interesting possibilities for the future of AI agents:

  • What other services could use this model?

  • How might this change the way consultants find and qualify leads?

  • Could this become a standard pattern for AI-human collaboration?

From a builder's perspective, it's a perfect example of someone with domain expertise building an agent that generates leads for their business. There's clear value for both sides: users get immediate, actionable insights, while builders create opportunities for their expertise.

I suspect we're going to see a lot more agents following this pattern — providing genuine value upfront while creating opportunities for human experts to add their unique value.

Try it Yourself

You can try the agent yourself here.

It costs 1 credit per analysis (hot tip: you get 100 free credits when you sign up), which might be the best ROI you'll find for website optimization.

Some pro tips I've discovered:

  • Run it on multiple pages, not just your homepage

  • Compare results with competitor websites

  • Save the reports to track improvements over time

  • Use the booking link if you want help implementing changes

What excites me most about this agent isn't just what it can do today, but what it represents for the future of AI-human collaboration. It's a glimpse of how AI agents can create real value while opening up opportunities for human expertise.
